Some are challenging, some are easy but they all have a common thread. They involve physical movement, which allows and encourages kids to explore body mind awareness and even better, to have fun doing it!

Functional Movement - 60 min
Online
with Katie McBrearty-Shields
1 hour
Functional Movement is defined as “Movements based on real-world situational biomechanics. They usually involve multi-planar, multi-joint movements which place demand on the body’s core musculature.” The human body has a huge amount of connective tissues that moves to help us form the way we move through this world. Over time these movement become ingrained in our muscle memory. Some of them work great for us and some of them do not. The movement patterns are in the fascia of our bodies and sometimes those patterns are not good and create difficulty in our movement. With functional movement added to our Yoga practice we can retrain that muscle memory and begin to strengthen and stretch, to once again move freely. We can stabilize our muscles and begin to find freedom in our movement. All levels are welcome. You will need a stretch cord (or two with different strengths) either can goods or some small weights, a yoga mat, blocks and a beach towel. If you don’t have these things, no worry we can help you find items in your home to use!
